[consequenceofsound.net] Thurston Moore’s Chelsea Light Moving elicited many chuckles earlier this year with the declaration that they’ll “detonate any birthday party, wedding or hullabaloo in any country, planet or stratosphere that doesn’t support right wing extremist NRA sucking bozo-ology.” Well, several commenters on Brooklyn Vegan put Moore’s outfit up for the task, and the Sonic Youth veteran responded last weekend by hitting up a party in Haydenville, MA — specifically, Trevor’s birthday party.
Yes, Moore, guitarist Keith Wood, drummer John Moloney, and multi-instrumenalist Samara Lubelski, all cramped into a basement to perform a full set for what will go down in Haydenville history as the greatest birthday of all time. There’s plenty of footage available, including cuts of “Empires of Time”, “Alighted”, and “Lip”. Replay each clip below.
Don’t fret: If you’re celebrating your own birthday in March, and you happen to be in Austin during South by Southwest, you could have the same soiree at our second annual CoSigns: Austin. RSVP now and then tell all your friends about it. We’ll gladly accept cake and pizza, too.
Chelsea Light Moving’s self-titled debut hits stores March 7th via Matador. Stream it now over at NPR.
