Quick Notes: Quicksand, Widowspeak, Glassjaw + More

*[theprp.com] Quicksand have booked an August 24th New York City, NY reunion show. The group are due to play The Bowery Ballroom with tickets going on sale at noon EST on August 01st. As previously reported, the bands 1993 offering “Slip” will get a new vinyl pressing on September 11th.

*[insound.com] Once a month, we bring one of our favorite bands into the studio to record a short live set. These multi-camera, high-quality videos can be streamed for free exclusively at Insound using the video player. Additionally, songs from the video session will be available either as a free, exclusive mp3 download, or as a free bonus when the band's physical album is purchased on Insound. We hope you enjoy!

Widowspeak offers up legitimately hazy and subtly psychedelic summer sounds with guitars bathed in reverb lying just below the smooth, sultry vocals of frontwoman Molly Hamilton. While most recently spending their early summer making the Brooklyn small venue rounds they dropped by for our newest studio session. This lighter-side-of-rock quartet played “Gun Shy”, previously released on Captured Tracks as a 7” single and also featured on their self-titled full length debut. Audio by Mike Kutchman (KUTCH1 Studios) and video from Frank Longhitano and Kevin Haus (haus + longhitano). Check it out HERE.

*Glassjaw will head to South America for the WROS Festival featuring a number of notable American bands including Rise Against, Alkaline Trio, Anti-Flag, Streetlight Manifesto, Strike Anywhere and A Wilhelm Scream. Local South American bands Dead Fish and Garage Fuzz will round out the lineup for the shows which take place in November.

*[press release] Baroness take fans behind-the-scenes in a new in-studio clip discussing the guitar work for the recently released album Yellow & Green. The clip and a recent interview with Pete Adams and John Baizley can be viewed on Guitar World's website HERE.

Yellow & Green debuted at #30 on Billboard's Top 200 last week, marking not only the band's highest entry on the chart but also Relapse Record's highest charting debut in the label's history.

Baroness recently premiered a video for "Take My Bones Away," a live clip shot during the band's North American tour this Spring which can be viewed HERE. A new round of North American dates will be announced soon.

*[theprp.com] Mastodon‘sFeistodon” split with Feist received an official digital release today, July 31st. The effort was previously only available on vinyl as part of this past April’s ”Record Store Day” releases.

*[press release] They slice, they dice, they julienne, and what's more - they can put on one hell of a sweaty-fun punk show. The toast of Brooklyn - The So So Glos - will soar above the din of tumbling Bocce balls with a show at Union Hall in Brooklyn, next Friday August 10th with Wyldlife and Awkward Girls.

Earlier next week (Monday, August 6th) the band-of-brothers will play an afternoon show for teenage attendees of NYC Rock Camp in Brooklyn. After a mini-set the So Sos will talk with aspiring tween/teen campers about the band's collective growth spurts... from their pre-pubescent formation in Bay Ridge to their recent international tours and their part in the founding of all-ages venues Market Hotel and Shea Stadium. This is infectious and inspiring stuff for bedroom-rockers to soak in the band's plucky DIY spirit. The So So Glos may also give pointers on rabble-rousing... because they know a thing or two about that as well… (or three!)

The So So Glos are clamoring to new heights, with tracks from their upcoming album Blowout already receiving extensive airplay on Sirius/XM radio, and much attention surrounding their performance at CBGB Festival earlier this month. Championed by discerning King's County kingmakers Vice and the youthful legion that pack their every Shea Stadium show, The So So Glos invite you to join in on the fun.

Biffy Clyro Ready "Opposites" + Debut New Song

[NME.com] Biffy Clyro have revealed that their forthcoming double album will be called 'Opposites'.

The band also debuted their brand new track, 'Stingin' Belle', on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show earlier this evening (July 31). Scroll down to listen to a fan-ripped version of the bagpipe-featuring track.

Speaking to Lowe about airing the song, the band's frontman Simon Neil said: "It's a strange situation when you're revealing what you've been working on for the past couple of years – it doesn't get any easier, but it's still exciting... we're definitely a bit nervous but we're very excited."

When asked why they had chosen to premiere the album with 'Stingin' Belle', Neil said: "It was one of the first songs that really clicked when we were recording it... it represents the record... It shows how over-the-top the record is." He added that: "it might be our last really over the top record."

Neil also said that that the album was 'weird' but still musical, saying: "We're still keeping things musical, still being as weird as we've always been."

The album title comes from the 'opposing' lyrics on each album, with one featuring positive lyrics and the other having a somewhat more negative sentiment.

Biffy Clyro were recently added to the line-up for London's iTunes Festival this year. They will headline London's Roundhouse on September 22.

Melvins Featured on Pitchfork's "Frames" + Tour Dates

[press release] Melvins' Buzz Osborne shares the story of the band's first tour via an animated clip on Pitchfork TV's "Frames" [below].

The Melvins will attempt to become the Guinness World Record holders for the first band to tour the full United States and D.C. in 51 days with a tour kicking off Sept. 5 in Anchorage, Alaska and wrapping up Oct. 25 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Los Angeles-based band's exploits will be chronicled on Spin's website via an ongoing tour diary.

"First off, it's almost impossible for us to convey to people that we plan on having both versions of the Melvins happening at the same time," Osborne recently told Exclaim Magazine. No Spill Blood (Adebisi Shank, etc) Release "Street Meat" EP

[press release] Dublin, Ireland synth-punk trio No Spill Blood release their Street Meat debut EP digitally today (LP and CD on Sept 4th) via Sargent House. Stream the entire 6-song release HERE [or below]. Check out the high quality multi-camera live video of the band playing "No Retreat" HERE.

Ireland's vitalic rock scene has once again created musical alchemy in the form of No Spill Blood, a band formed from the much-loved, respected and established bands Adebisi Shank, Hands Up Who Wants To Die?, Elk and Magic Pockets.

Matt Hedigan (Hands Up Who Wants To Die?, Elk), Ruadhan O'Meara (Magic Pockets) and Lar Kaye (Adebisi Shank) took time out of their other bands to jam in Dublin in early 2011 after Matt had moved to the city from Cork. The trio's shared musical influences, the agile post-rock electronic punch of Trans Am, the playful noise of Devo and the low-down post-punk of the Melvins can be heard melded into No Spill Blood's spirited hurtling rhythms.

While their other musical projects contribute to the tempos, the tones and the textures of the music, No Spill Blood's sound is unequivocally their own. Repetitive Kraut-esque rhythms are goaded by O'Meara's buzzsaw vintage synthesizers, Kaye swaps his robotic guitar work in Adebisi Shank for incisively-charged drums and Hedigan provides the fuzzed-out low-end and beastly vocals. Or in their own words - "Heft, Heft, Synth, Heft, Heft".

The lyrical subject matter on Street Meat is concerned with dark, recondite and toilsome subject matter -- coal mining. "The lyrics are loosely based on a story I wrote in school about a guy who reluctantly starts working in his local mine," says Hedigan. "I'll leave the rest up to your imagination! It's fairly apocalyptic."

Street Meat's six tracks were primarily recorded with Dek Hynes in a derelict office block running on a gasoline-powered generator. Mixing was done by Vinny McCreith (Adebisi Shank/The Vinny Club) and James Eager from The Hive mastered the EP. The EP's trippy artwork was done by Sonny Kay from post-hardcore group The VSS. "We just sent him a few images we liked, and he took elements from them, and came back with that awesome cover art. It's so striking, we are all crazy about it."

And as for the name No Spill Blood? "It's an Oingo Boingo tune," says O'Meara. "They got it from the [H. G. Wells book] 'The Island of Dr. Moreau', the same place where Devo got 'Are We Not Men?' It seemed fitting..."

Quick Notes: Liars, Deftones + The Company Band

*[consequenceofsound.net] Hey, what do you get when you combine Loony Toons, QWOP, and nightmares? That would be Liars’ video for their track “Brats” off of this year’s exploration WIXIW. Elmer Fudd, Bugs Bunny, and even the band itself appear as rude polygons in a violent, weird, sexual computer world. Check out the video below.

In other Primus news...

[theprp.com] Band vocalist/bassist Les Claypool recently revealed what fans can expect from the trek to Billboard.com.

According to the article, attendees will be issued 3D goggles upon admittance to the venues. The group will take advantage of this through a wealth of new 3D imagery created explicitly for the tour—something that will apparently help accentuate their improv jams in particular.

“Quad Surround Sound” technology will also be utilized at each stop of the tour, which will find the band performing two sets per night. Despite the increased production scale, the performances will not be canned. On that, Claypool stated:

“Every show will be different. Different environments, as far as venues, are going to lend themselves to different experiences, depending on where you are and whatnot in the crowd. It’s very heady. People that are going to be moshing around probably won’t get any of this, but the heads will get it.”

The technology itself was developed by 3D Live with the initial leg of dates announced thus far serving as a test run for a possible future tour. Meanwhile, Claypool also revealed that a 5.1 surround sound reissue of the groups 1991 offering “Sailing The Seas of Cheese” will arrive sometime this fall.

When pressed about new material from the band however, he offered:

“We haven’t really been working on anything new at this point. We haven’t even really been talking about it. We’ve still been kind of hammering away at this record. It’s been a very pleasant record to play. It flows really well, so it’s been a good one to hammer away on. I doubt we’ll take as long (to make the next album) but we’re not on the 18-month schedule.”

Quick Notes: Quicksand, The Black Lips, Black Sabbath + More

*[theprp.com] A remastered limited edition vinyl pressing of Quicksand‘s 1993 outing “Slip” is being readied for a September 11th release. The pressing will be limited to 1500 copies in total with 500 on red/black swirl, 500 on green/yellow swirl and 500 on plain black vinyl. Some more details on that can be found at Shopradiocast.com.

*[consequenceofsound.net] After years of cheering the Atlanta Braves to victory with his war dances, Chief Noc-A-Homa has fallen in with a bad crowd, specifically the city’s resident flower punk band Black Lips. The band’s music video for the pseudo-eponymous “Noc-A-Homa” documents the depths of this once-proud chief’s downfall, living on the streets, breaking car windows, and robbing liquor stores just to get by. And based off the Braves’ record thus far this season, perhaps everyone would be better off if the Chief moved into a new teepee inside Turner Field. Watch the video below.

The band’s latest album, Arabia Mountain, is out now via Vice.

*[theprp.com] Black Sabbath have released some official live footage from their live show at the O2 Academy in Birmingham, UK this past May. You can watch the group rip through “Paranoid” below:

*[theprp.com] Minus The Bear have posted a new track titled “Steel And Blood” online via Soundcloud.com. It is taken from their upcoming release “Infinity Overhead“, due out August 28th on Dangerbird Records [EIS note: and Big Scary Monsters Records in the UK].

*[theprp.com] The Sword guitarist Kyle Shutt has given some insight into the bands newly-recorded album “Apocryphon“, which the group look to now be mixing. Speaking with Altpress.com, Shutt described the record as follows:

“It is a reflection of everything that we [have gone] through and the lessons we learned. We then deal with these situations metaphorically in our lyrics. This record is just 10 banging hard rockers. There’s no real “stick out” thrash song, or, like, this one is the ballad. I don’t think there’s going to be any instrumental songs on this record, either, so that’ll be a first for us. It’s just 10 kick-ass rock songs.”

More on that and the bands tentative touring plans can be found HERE.

*[press release] Brooklyn psychedelic rock band NAAM has released its new music video "The Starchild" from its recently released EP The Ballad of the Starchild. As the song unfolds, the video weaves into epic Egyptian lore, touching on the myth of Osiris, Isis and Horus "as told in three acts" and laden with symbology that alludes to the pagan "Killing of the King" ritual, the worship of higher beings from the constellation Orion and NASA's Apollo mission (!!). Directed by Zev Deans for Panorama Programming (Liturgy, Chelsea Wolfe), the video is an insane journey and surely unlike anything you've ever seen. Check it out below.

Released this past May, The Ballad of the Starchild was recorded in BKLYN's Galuminum Foil Studios and mastered at NYC's world famous Masterdisk (Miles Davis, Nirvana, etc.), showcasing NAAM's most forward-thinking material to date. The new music on the EP has been called "far-out space jams" and "epic, blissful nuggetoids" that are "just beggin' to play through your headphones. On your beanbag chair. Under fluorescent lights illuminating glowing velvet posters of big-titty Frank Frazetta chicks with pet panthers and a Loc-Nar pendant (Blurt)." NAAM will perform live alongside Andrew WK at the 2012 Bushwick Block Party (FREE!) tomorrow in Brooklyn before launching a European tour in support of The Ballad of the Starchild on August 1st (see dates HERE).

*Mandala are featuring video with Tool's Danny Carey speaking about how he works these devices into his music...

*[theprp.com] While it was initially thought the long-gestating supergroup Giraffe Tongue Orchestra were only writing new material; a new posting from producer Steve Evetts (Every Time I Die, The Dillinger Escape Plan) has proven otherwise.

According to Evetts‘ Lockerz profile, the group, who feature members of Mastodon & The Dillinger Escape Plan, plus alumni of Jane’s Addiction and The Mars Volta, are in the studio tracking new songs.

*[consequenceofsound.net] The Arctic Monkeys can now tell their grandchildren they covered The Beatles’ “Come Together” in front of the Queen and Sir Paul McCartney. The band took the stage tonight at the opening ceremonies of the London Olympics and performed both “Come Together” and “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor”. You can watch footage of the performance HERE. A studio version of their “Come Together” cover is also now available via iTunes.

The ceremonies also featured performances by McCartney, Dizzee Rascal, Two Door Cinema Club, and Emeli Sandé. In addition, the soundtrack included songs from The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks, David Bowie, Sex Pistols, New Order, Prodigy, Blur, Radiohead, Muse, Coldplay and — wait for it — Fuck Buttons, which means the Queen has now heard Fuck Buttons. The Olympics are already a major success.

As previously reported, Oscar-winning filmmaker Danny Boyle served as the creative director for the opening ceremonies, while UK electro duo Underworld were hired as musical directors. For their part, Underworld penned 24 minutes worth of new music, which is also available for purchase via iTunes.

*A message from Delta Spirit... "Rolling Stone is currently offering a free download of "Tear It Up" HERE from our new self-titled album Delta Spirit and, for a limited time, you can purchase the entire album digitally from Amazon for only $3.99. Tell your friends!

Did you catch our Daytrotter session we recorded during SXSW? Through August 1, 2012, you can order the second installment in the new Daytrotter Presents Vinyl Series: a 180-gram, 12" split record featuring live recordings by Delta Spirit and Doc Watson! Guided By Voices Ready "The Bears For Lunch" + Tour Dates

[consequenceofsound.net] Guided By Voices will return in November with their third album of 2012. And that’s just the beginning — the band plans to continue issuing a new album every six months (!), reports Rolling Stone.

The Bears for Lunch serves as the follow up to January’s Let’s Go Eat the Factory and June’s Class Clown Spots a UFO. It spans 19 tracks and is described by guitarist Tobin Sprout as reminiscent of the band’s guitar-heavy 1996 LP, Under the Bushes. Sprout said, “Under the Bushes was more longer, developed songs, and that’s kind of what this one is.”

The band will begin work on their next LP, English Little League, in August, and then tour the country the following month. Needless to say, Robert Pollard is living up to his title.

The Bears for Lunch Tracklist:

Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group (with Teri of Le Butcherettes) Announce EU/US Tour

[press release] Immensely prolific Grammy Award winning recording artist Omar Rodriguez Lopez (The Mars Volta, At The Drive-In) announces European and U.S. tour dates with Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group beginning in late August. Teresa Suarez aka Teri Gender Bender of Le Butcherettes will be lead vocalist for all of these shows. The U.S. leg concludes with a performance at Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, TX in November. More shows will soon be announced in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Russia and on the East Coast in the USA. Please see all current dates below.

Omar also graces the cover of the new issue of the relaunched ALARM Magazine in a revealing feature titled, "The Death of a Dictator" in which he ushers in a new era relinquishing the control he's held over The Mars Volta. The entire issue is available for a limited time as a free download for iPad users.

Omar Rodriguez Lopez's genre-defying sixteen-year career has resulted in more than 40 albums, a Grammy Award and being deemed among Rolling Stone's "Greatest Guitarists of All Time." His seminal and critically acclaimed band, At the Drive-In, redefined popular rock music at the end of the last decade. Since that time, in addition to being both a solo artist and leader/composer/producer of the The Mars Volta, Rodriguez Lopez has collaborated with John Frusciante, Hans Zimmer, Erykah Badu, RZA, Lydia Lunch and many others.

Along with Teri taking center stage and Mars Volta drummer Deantoni Parks once again in their ranks on this tour, this incarnation of the ORLG will henceforth function as a democracy -- a dynamic, shape-shifting band in the truest sense. What they intend to achieve this autumn will be nothing short of a total reinvention of themselves.

Check out Omar's most recent solo album, Octopus Kool Aid featuring lyrics and vocals by Teri Gender Bender available to stream HERE.

Caspian Launch "You Are The Conductor" Vinyl Repress Pre-Order

A message from Mylene Sheath Records...

"Hey fam! Just squeezing in here real quick to let y'all know that we're repressing the seminal debut EP by Caspian on vinyl for the first time since 2008!

As the band prepares to release their new full length Waking Season (view the trailer below) and tour North America and Europe throughout the fall, we thought it was probably time to press up some more of these so they're available again.

I don't think too much can be said about this album that hasn't been said before, it's a bonafide classic in every way. From the opening 1-2-3 punch of "Quovis," "Further Up" and "Further In," known now simply as "The Trilogy", to the shimmering final notes of the epic closing track "Last Rites," You Are The Conductor ebbs and flows flawlessly in instrumental perfection. Few bands have ever set the bar so high for themselves on their debut EP, and as we all know by now, Caspian saw that bar and continues to raise it higher with each subsequent release, never succumbing to the pressure of their previous excellence. And it all started here, with these six tracks comprising the most promising instrumental debut in recent memory.

For this particular pressing we've gone all out, balls-to-the-wall with the quality and packaging. The records have all been pressed on 180 gram virgin vinyl. There's four different colors; we've got translucent green, which is the mailorder edition, limited to 100 copies and only available through us. Then we have opaque mint green, which we've split with the band, so we have a very limited amount of these. There's 100 total of them pressed, but we have much less than that to sell in our webstore - the rest will be made available exclusively through the band. Then we have 100 copies on white vinyl, these ones will only be available from record stores and online retailers via Redeye Distribution. And lastly, for the audiophiles we have 300 copies on black vinyl.

So these thick slabs need to be properly stored when not constantly rotating around your turntable, right? We gotchoo. These 180 gram slabs will be housed in super thick, heavy-duty, no-joke casewrapped, tip-on jackets. If you've seen these jackets before, then you know how THICK and unbelievable they are!

Anyhow, to round out the package we've got full-color printed inner sleeves snuggling their 180 gram buddies. This is truly a gargantuan behemoth, friends. Quality with a capital "Q", and truly the definitive edition, and proper retelling of this classic record.

*Collectors Note: We know that we also did 100 copies on white vinyl in the first pressing, so to tell the difference between the two pressings, just remember that the jackets in the first pressing were on 20pt reverse board stock, not casewrapped. And beyond the jacket difference, there's been slight alterations to both the printed inner sleeves and the center labels on the record itself.

Here's some album deetz for ya, so you know what you're getting yourself into:

Side A:

1. Quovis
2. Further Up
3. Further In

Side B:

4. Loft
5. For Protection
6. Last Rites

PRE-ORDER HERE.

You just thought to yourself... "my god, I've got to see these guys perform live!", didn't you? Well, you're in luck friend, the band will be on tour this fall with Minus The Bear & Cursive:

We'll be running a few pre-order contests, including a doozy over on Modern Vinyl. Check it out right HERE for a chance to win some free Caspian goods! Such as...

•First prize - A copy of the record on translucent green vinyl (limited to 100) and a T-shirt.
•Second prize - A copy of the record on black vinyl (limited to 300).

But tonight we'll be chattin' it up over on our message board RIGHT HERE, so feel free to drop by and say hello! And also, tomorrow at 1pm, be sure to stop by the message board again as Philip Jamieson of Caspian will be popping in to talk to fans of the band about all the action happening in the bands world right now as they gear up for a new release and a huge tour!

Lastly, we'll be resuming the TEST PRESS ARTWORK CONTEST SERIES with this one. So if you've got the creative itch to design a jacket for a very limited set of test presses (10 hand numbered copies), head over HERE and check out all the details!

I think that should do it for now, please forward this info to anyone you know that likes good music, we appreciate it and depend on word of mouth above all else! If you have any other questions at all, please feel free to hit us up at any time! Lets do this!!

We expect these to ship in September"

"Caspian has the instrumental firepower to make a big noise when it feels like it. But the melodies, timbres and harmonics are so fully realized that "Tertia" would be mighty, even without its climaxes..." - The Washington Post

"With key tempo changes, well-spaced arrangements, and delicate instrumental insertions Tertia succeeds in capturing an earthen mood even as it soars to scrape the upper levels of the atmosphere..." - Pop Matters

"the ability to create such a wide range of reactions is the definition of true art. And if it can be accomplished through a version of metal, all the more power to it. Heady stuff, this." - Metal Sucks

The Whigs Debut "Waiting" + Tour Dates

[press release] To get fans excited for their upcoming tour, The Whigs are making their new single "Waiting" available for free download. The celebratory rock and roll-fueled track will be available for the next 24 hours HERE.

Beginning on September 1st in Big Sky, MT, The Whigs will kick off a 3-month tour in support of their upcoming album Enjoy The Company, out September 18th on New West Records.

Enjoy The Company, a raucous ode to rock and roll, is a record that offers a powerful sonic rendering of a band opening up to the depth of their past and kicking open the doors to their future. But most of all, this is the undeniably established sound of a band affirming their legacy in the American rock and roll paradigm.

Quick Notes: Mad Season/Mark Lanegan, Omar Rodriguez Lopez/Le Butcherettes, Chelsea Light Moving + More

*[theprp.com] Guerilla Candy caught wind of a recent interview with Mad Season, etc. drummer Barret Martin. The conversation touched upon his plans to finish previously-unreleased material from the (mostly) long-defunct outfit.

Martin revealed that his former Screaming Trees bandmate, and frequent Queens Of The Stone Age collaborator, Mark Lanegan will be tackling the vocals for the songs. The tracks in question were originally written for late group frontman Layne Staley (also of Alice In Chains).

No word on how much material is in the works or a potential release time frame was offered however.

*[theprp.com] Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (The Mars Volta) has released a new album titled “Octopus Kool Aid” via Bandcamp. The effort was originally recorded in February of 2011 and features vocals from Teri Gender Bender of Le Butcherettes.

*[stereogum.com] Lately, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore has been recording and playing shows with a new band called Chelsea Light Moving. We’ve already heard the new tracks “Burroughs” and “Groovy & Linda,” and today, Moore decided to celebrate his 54th birthday by posting a new track called “Frank O’Hara Hit,” named for the late beat poet. The song is alternately a scuzzed-out hiss and a pretty chiming-guitars meditation, which means Thurston Moore made it. Grab it below.

Moore posted this song alongside a fanziney piece about historically significant late-July events; click HERE to read what he wrote.

*[pitchfork.com] On September 24, Austin's absurdly named fuzz-rockers Ringo Deathstarr will release their second LP, Mauve, via Club AC30/Sonic Unyon. On September 11 (a day before in the UK), they'll release this single from that record, "Rip".

STREAM Ringo Deathstarr "Rip" HERE!

*A message from Big Scary Monsters Records... "We are delighted to welcome the wonderful Minus The Bear to the BSM family! Having influenced a great number of the artists we've worked with over the past few years, it's an honour to be releasing their brilliant new record, 'Infinity Overhead', in September.

Since forming in Seattle in 2001, Minus The Bear has worked relentlessly over the past decade to build a large and devoted following worldwide with consistent releases and a non-stop touring regimen. With a back-catalogue that has seen them sell over 300,000 records, the band has played countless sold out tours throughout the world, in addition to unforgettable performances at huge US festivals, including Bonnaroo, Coachella, Lollapalooza and Sasquatch!. They have done this all on their own terms and with the release of Infinity Overhead, they are at the height of their powers.

'Infinity Overhead' can now be pre-ordered, on CD and limited edition 12" vinyl (clear and transparent blue - of which there is very few left!) from www.bsmrocks.com [for those in the UK]. The first 200 orders come with a free set of MTB badges and a guitar plectrum. The band headline Heaven in London on 17th August, tickets on sale now."

*[consequenceofsound.net] Here’s “Elephant”, the lead single from Tame Impala’s upcoming album Lonerism, which will be released on October 9th via Modular. It’s the second track to surface from the album following “Apocalypse Dreams”.

*[press release] Belfast's weird and wonderful indie-alt-rockers MOJO FURY will be hitting the UK in September for their only remaining UK shows of 2012. The band will be playing songs from their debut "Visiting Hours of a Traveling Circus" alongside the airing of brand new material from their as yet untitled second album, which is currently being recorded. See Mojo Fury in the studio right HERE.

The tracklisting and artwork will soon be unveiled but for now you can stream forthcoming new single, "Gallop," which was premiered via Pitchfork last week.

Directed by Evald Johnson, the film is based on his personal experiences as the son of a Major League baseball player turned controversial manager. High & Outside: A Baseball Noir tells the story of one man's dream to play professional baseball and the desperate measures he takes to keep that dream alive. An early teaser trailer can be viewed here.

The cast includes Yow, Eddie Jemison (Oceans 11, Hung), Geoff Lewis (High Plains Drifter, Every Which Way But Loose), Richard Patrick (Filter, NIN), Phil Donlon (Unbroken, Queens of the Lot) and Scarlett Fay (Playboy TV). Good To Die Records Release FREE Sampler

[press release] Have you been missing out on the mighty and powerful rock from the Northwest that has been pumped out on the regular by Seattle's Good To Die Records? Well, friends, you have no excuse now.

Good To Die is ready to get you caught up with its first digital-only compilation. Featuring tracks from all of the label's releases to date, this handy little primer is rife with furious riffage, impassioned singing, and energy to spare. This free collection wraps together tracks from prog-metal dynamos Dog Shredder, the angular, furious punk outfit Deadkill, and the titans of sci-fi power rock Sandrider.

This compilation also boasts a pair of exclusives. You can grab your first taste of Portland's queerest rockers Gaytheist, via "Condemn The Condemners," a cheeky politically minded blast from the trio's upcoming full-length Stealth Beats (out on August 21st).

And you get your first glimpse into Good To Die's most recent signing: the sludge punkers from Portland known simply as Rabbits. A sample of the band's future Good To Die release, "Meth Valley 99" both pays homage to the influence of Sonic Youth and gives the trio a chance to show off their love of steaming noise and throat-shredding screaming.

All the goodness of Good To Die in one neat, tidy, and cost-free package? What the hell are you waiting for? Those eardrums of yours aren't going to puncture themselves.

Crypts Debut "Territories" + Tour Dates

[consequenceofsound.net] Back in 2009, Seattle’s post-hardcore outfit These Arms Are Snakes put the kibosh on their seven-year run. In the aftermath, vocalist Steve Snere was looking for a different musical enterprise. “I needed a change of pace… to take myself out of the guitar-based rock world, he explains. Joining forces with programmer Bryce Brown and visual artist Nick Bartoletti, the trio formed Crypts, setting out to “experiment to find a sound we wanted to hear.” The dark electronic sound the three mad scientist concocted will be revealed to the world with the September 4th release of their self-titled debut via Sargent House.

As an early taste of what these boys from the Emerald City have in store, take a listen to “Territories”. Pulsating synths ripple over an eerie haze, while pounding subsonic bass keeps the rhythm for choppy, syncopated snare snaps and skittering claps. It’s a foreboding yet enticing mix, like the mist beckoning a horror film’s hapless heroine into the forest. The clearing in the forest here is the chorus, a barrage of gloom-pop color with Snere’s voice howling out as the synths swell and burst. Check it out below.

For the band’s full effect, catch them on tour, where Bartoletti’s role gets fully realized as he creates a live video and light show to sync with the band’s music. As previously reported, they’re heading out on the road with Chelsea Wolfe in September. See those dates underneath the Crypts tracklist ahead.

Crypts Tracklist:

01. Completely Fucked
02. Daft
03. Territories
04. Breathe
05. Fancy
06. Smut
07. Bloods
08. Sleazy
