Quick Notes: At The Drive-In, Black Sabbath, The Men + More

*[theprp.com] If you weren’t at Coachella to snag At The Drive-In’s Vaya reissue for Record Store Day, don’t worry. On June 5th, Fearless Records is re-releasing the band’s 1999 EP in two different formats. Vaya will be available on limited pressing (1,000 copies) “vibrant red” 10″ vinyl exclusively at Hot Topic stores; alternatively, 3,000 copies of “hot pink” Vaya will be available online and at record stores everywhere. You can pre-order pink Vaya starting now.

*[theprp.com] Black Sabbath have announced a May 19th homecoming show at the O2 Academy in Birmingham, England. The bands official website only makes mention of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler being involved with the show—suggesting tensions with drummer Bill Ward were not resolved.

The band apparently continue to write new material with plans to return to the studio alongside producer Rick Rubin followed by their August appearance at this years “Lollapalooza” in Chicago, IL.

*[pitchfork.com] Busy year for Brooklyn punks The Men, following a monsoon of attention the group garnered from their excellent and slightly more accessible March record Open Your Heart. Before embarking on a packed summer tour schedule, though, they'll begin sessions for a new record, according to this blog post from Saturday. The band is recording in upstate New York in Big Indian, located in the Catskill Mountains.

Their single for the Matador "Going Home Alone" 7" subscription series, "Jennifer" b/w "New Pop", is out May 22. And, as the band notes, a repress of their 2010 record Immaculada will be available from Deranged Records in the near future.

The Polyphonic Spree Announce Rocky Horror Halloween Concert

[NME.com] The Polyphonic Spree are set to perform songs from cult musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show at a Halloween show in London later this year.

The band will be playing songs from the 1973 musical – which was turned into a film in 1975 – at London's HMV Forum on October 31. The band will also perform tracks from their back catalogue. The late night event will kick off at 11pm and punters who show up in fancy dress will receive free drinks vouchers.

Last year, The Polyphonic Spree launched their first single in four years as an interactive iPad app. 'Bullseye' was created with Moonbot Studios and the video allowed fans to control a character named You-Me, who was based on a sketch by the band's leader Tim DeLaughter.

The band have been involved in a wide range of projects since releasing their last album 'The Fragile Army' in 2007. They were commissioned to write a song for US soccer team FC Dallas, titled 'H-O-O-P-S Yes'.

In 2009, DeLaughter wrote the theme song for Steven Spielberg's US TV show United States Of Tara and later that year, the frontman composed and performed the score for a new DVD art project entitled Wee See.

My Bloody Valentine Ready New Music + Stream Unreleased Track

[consequenceofsound.net] My Bloody Valentine plans to release a new album and EP in 2012, marking the band’s first material since 1991′s Loveless. This is according to the band’s mastermind, Kevin Shields, who told Mojo (via NME) that he was inspired by the band’s upcoming reissues. “I listened to the stacks of CDs and thought, ‘Shit, this is better than the unreleased tracks on the compilation’. I decided it would be insane not to finish it.”

In an interview with Pitchfork last month, Shields revealed that he was “finishing a record that I had started in the 90s.” He also said that he was working on it with the whole band.

In the meantime, the band will reissue their 1988 debut, Isn’t Anything, along with 1991′s Loveless on May 7th via Sony Records. Also available that day is a compilation called EPs 1988-1991, which includes the band’s four EPs as well as other rarities and unreleased tracks. Speaking of unreleased tracks, stream the one called “Good For You” HERE.

*[consequenceofsound.net] As previously reported, Bay Area psych rocker Ty Segall will team up with Mikal Cronin, Charlie Moothart, and Emily Rose Epstein (collectively known as the Ty Segall Band) to release Slaughterhouse on June 26th via In the Red. Now, Segall and co. have shared the first single, “Wave Goodbye”, which switches back and forth between two settings: quiet, methodical streams of ultra-distorted vocals and furious, concussive waves of glorious metal riff-age. Dave Grohl's Sound City Documentary Continues to Take Shape

[billboard.com] Butch Vig has his producer and engineer's hat on as he works with Dave Grohl on an upcoming documentary about Sound City, the legendary Los Angeles recording studio where the two made Nirvana's "Nevermind." After purchasing the vintage Neve console for his home studio, Grohl decided to tell the facility's history on film and enlisted Vig to work on a soundtrack for the project.

"He's probably interviewed 150 or 200 people so far, and now we've been working on musical collaborations to be a part of the soundtrack for the film," Vig tells Billboard.com. "It's all new things. Rick Springfield came in and played with Dave, Josh Homme and Queens of the Stone Age. ...I'm not sure how it's all going to come together yet, but so far the process has been really, really fun." Vig also recently tweeted that he, Grohl and Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic had been back in the studio again after working on the song "I Should Have Known" for Foo Fighters' latest album "Wasting Light," presumably as part of the Sound City project.

Vig says he's been having as much fun listening to the interviews for the documentary as he has been making music. "The studio has such a history -- and it's a mixed history, you know?" he says of the place Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" and many other legendary albums were recorded. "Some of the people's experiences there were great, and some people's experiences, like anything, were negative or there's a black cloud or whatever. We're not trying to paint a shiny picture, like everything is always perfect when you go into a recording studio, and I think that is what is sort of fascinating to see how all these people opened up. Like Lindsey Buckingham and Tom Petty, the stories they have are incredible. Tom Petty talked for, like, six hours, and it's amazing; we could a 90-minute or two-hour film with just him. So it's going to be interesting to see what makes the final cut."

As for a timetable, Vig says he's "hoping that we'll get it finished and mixed in the fall... to have it come out early next year, like January or February or something like that."

Grohl, meanwhile, has set up a faux studio hotline -- 1-855-SND-CITY (763-2489) -- that fans can call to get messages from him and updates about the Sound City film. A 25-second teaser trailer is posted at the film's official web site.

Jack White In The News... Concerts, TV, Scores + More

We've been playing a bit of catch up on our regular news postings. In that time there has been no shortage of Jack White features around the internet. All very appropriate as Blunderbuss, his solo debut dropped earlier this week and the record is rather exceptional. So here it is, the week in Jack White news...

*[consequenceofsound.net] If you missed it, Jack White’s Friday night performance at New York’s Webster Hall, which was streamed online as part of American Express’ Unstaged series, is available to replay below. White performed with both his female and male bands during the career-spanning 21-song set. With Jay-Z looking on, he also briefly covered Frank Ocean’s part from Watch the Throne’s “No Church in the Wild” during his performance of “Cut Like a Buffalo” (scroll to the 1:12:45 mark.)

*[consequenceofsound.net] Later… with Jools Holland was back on the air Friday night with a second set of performances by Jack White. White tackled the Blunderbuss track “Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy” with the ladies, ripped through The White Stripes’ classic “Ball and Biscuit” with the fellas, and shared a few words with Jools.

*[consequenceofsound.net] It was a big night on Later… with Jools Holland featuring performances from Jack White. Supporting Blunderbuss, which is now available, White ripped through “Sixteen Saltines” and “Freedom At 21″. Watch the video replays below.

*[consequenceofsound.net] The last time Jack White appeared on The Colbert Report, a week-long rock odyssey resulted in Stephen Colbert putting out his very own, White-produced 7″ single through Third Man Records. On Thursday night, the two geniuses reunited, and while no music was recorded, a wacky interview led way to an enthralling performance of White’s Blunderbuss single “Freedom At 21″.

The interview took place backstage after White questioned the need to talk about music. “That’s ridiculous. It’s like dancing about architecture or singing about paintings.” Colbert responded by offering examples of questions he’d ask, including if it was any coincidence White went solo after they worked together, why Colbert wasn’t invited to perform backing vocals on Blunderbuss (he demonstrated his talents on “Love Interruption”), and if White’s absurd distribution techniques may have something to do with the music industry’s demise. White eventually turned the tables, quizzing Colbert on the legitimacy of the ‘Colbert Bump.’

Watch a replay of the entire thing HERE. In case you weren’t aware, Blunderbuss is out now.

*[consequenceofsound.net] Now that Jack White has his first solo outing in the can, the Third Man Records head has sights on another first: film scoring. As Variety reports, White has been tapped by Walt Disney Pictures to provide the score for their upcoming Gore Verbinski-directed The Lone Ranger. The film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, had this to say: “Jack’s an amazing songwriter with a unique style. We’re thrilled to hear his fresh take on the [Lone Ranger theme] ‘William Tell Overture’.”

Though White has contributed to films in the past (2008′s Bond film Quantum of Solace, 2007′s Cold Mountain), The Lone Ranger will be his first foray into scores. You can thank Verbinski and Johnny Depp, the man playing the Lone Ranger’s “sidekick”, Tonto. “Gore hatched the idea and Johnny was thrilled with it,” Bruckheimer tells Variety. “We’re all very excited to have him on board.”

With Armie Hammer in the iconic title role, filming for The Lone Ranger is currently underway in New Mexico with an eye on a May 13th, 2013 release.

Toadies Set July Release for "Play.Rock.Music"

[consequenceofsound.net] Dallas/Fort Worth grunge outfit Toadies will release their new album, PLAY.ROCK.MUSIC, on July 31st via Kirtland Records. Originally slated to be released as an EP on May 31st, the band changed their tune and expanded the effort after spending some quality time in the recording studio with producer Frenchie Smith (The Darkness, Meat Puppets, Built to Spill). The first single, “Summer of the Stage”, will be released digitally on May 8th.

In a press release, vocalist Vaden Todd Lewis says of the recording process:

"The plan was just to record some demos with (producer) Frenchie Smith. It went so well we decided to compile the songs into an EP. But we were having such a good time, we decided to keep the ball rolling and make a full-length record. A lot of this material was written on the fly in the studio. It was a very exciting and scary process.”

Currently on tour with Social Distortion, Toadies announced that they will be adding more to-be-determined dates with Helmet afterward. The band has also revealed that their annual festival Dia de los Toadies will take place over Labor Day weekend in New Braunfels, TX. Check out their full docket below.

Dope Body Offer Free Download of "Weird Mirror"

[press release] Having recently announced the unholy union of Dope Body and Drag City we thought it was about time we unleash a taster from the album for all to hear, so here it is, available for free download, "Weird Mirror" - showcasing Dope Body's punk-rock ferocity at its finest.

DOWNLOAD: Dope Body - "Weird Mirror" [right click, save as]

Don't forget you can also check out album track "Lazy Slave" on Soundcloud [below].

Dope Body, the lovely brothers of Baltimore, have erected a fresh slab of sound fit for release 4 June 2012. They call it, Natural History. This is the Drag City debut for these fellows, sure to give hope to all bodies world-wide, both natural and enhanced.

Dope Body formed in December-of-2008-Baltimore as an experiment in musical instincts, jamming and writing the simplest one-part/one-riff/one-minute songs that were the first thing to come to mind (most ended up on their first tape 20 Pound Brick). They then set up a novelty basement show in this super-small basement, with the great intention of trying to stoke primal hardcore thrash vibes in both the music and audience, which at that point in time was kind of lacking in Baltimore (mostly dance-party-Wham-City-absurdist-style). It was a great mess of an experience with drunken beer flying, shirts tearing, glass breaking, strings snapping, amps frying, cigarette smoke asphyxiating... so much fun that a silent acknowledgement was made: don't stop doing this, something feels too right about it. Dope Body strove to play that kind of show over and over again since then, somehow maintaining a work ethic, being fairly prolific without the threat of taking themselves too seriously.

Dope Body are road doggies, funsters, and gleeful pummellers of basement and attic parties alike, wide-eyed fanatics of the craft that the more reasonable among us might mistake for insanity (it isn't entirely so). Dope Body is a spasm of styles and directions, showering sparks from a half-melted thickness. They writhe under their own influences and experiments, swinging and swaying from guttural chugging to charming riffs n licks within the confines of a single tune.

Natural History is Dope Body in possession of what might be their most COMMERCIALLY ACCESSIBLE album ever – especially if your idea of "commercially accessible" is Half-Machine Lips Moves/Psychic, Powerless…/or "Salad Days"-era punk. They have well and truly honed their own off-kilter sound, replete with heavy walls of rhythm, raw electronics and vocals that grunt and yelp with an animalistic ferocity.

Dope Body are bloodthirsty and ready to take the UK and EU by storm with both Natural History and promised live appearances - lock up your daughters, your boyfriends, your kids - keep your own body in check - no one body's the same, but everybody's body is sure to get weird when it comes into contact with Dope Body!

EIS Review: Antlered Man - Giftes 1 & 2

Review by Sam Carter

From the opening track of Antlered Man's Giftes 1 & 2 I found this LP off putting. The vocals grated on me, the discordant guitar tones and almost twee whistles, xylophones and orchestral fills made me remember that I had Torche - Harmonicraft to listen to also.
Then I found that I was beat nodding and tapping my foot without consciously being aware of it.

I felt this nostalgic pull towards the pAper chAse and Monotonix. Maybe I was initially wrong to push Antlered Man aside. Maybe i just didn't get it. Maybe I've been listening to Nicki Minaj too much.

Damo Eziekel's vocals weren't grating anymore, his carnival sing-sing delivery style draws you in. The rhythmic drumming and orchestral pieces blend together beautifully, with bass lines giving almost a flow and swing.

From The Beatles beginning with "Helter Skelter," System of a Down, definitely some Melvins, maybe even Future of the Left, these guys take their influences and make them their own. With song titles like "Schizo Tennis", "Buddhist Soup" and "Can't Beat Them, Try Solvents" - incidentally my favourite tracks on the album - Antlered Man take their song writing in the same stride as their musical output.

This is metal. This is psycho pop. It's got it's own appeal to people who have their ears open for moments of real constructed and well thought out beauty, amongst a chaotic and almost destructive formula. Antlered Man haven't got mass appeal, and that's a -good- thing. they don't want it. They do what they want, and they're real good at it.

White Lung Announce "Sorry" Details + West Coast Tour

[press release] White Lung is a punk quartet comprised of Mish Way on lead vocals, Kenneth William on guitar, Grady Mackintosh on bass, and Anne-Marie Vassilou on drums. They formed in 2006 in Vancouver, Canada. A series of 7" single releases in 2007, 2008, and 2010 previewed the harrowing pace and fierce energy of 2010's It's the Evil, Exclaim.ca's 2010 Punk Album of the year. Stepping in where Mika Miko left, White Lung are poised to deliver a Grrl fueled kick to the ball of punk rock with their anticipated follow-up album Sorry, coming May 29, 2012 on Deranged Records (Fucked Up, Career Suicide, Marvelous Darlings).

Sorry shows a progression of the band towards more complex vocals; Singer Mish Way is channeling the spirit of the music into lyrical tones not seen on their prior album, It's the Evil. The music is as harsh as ever, but choruses sung in unison lend feelings of cohesion and depth to the aggression. White Lung is a band changing, not maturing, for the better.

You can check out the first single, "Take The Mirror" HERE [right click, save as]. White Lung will be supporting the release with lots of North American touring, including a newly announced west coast run.

White Lung on tour:

Jun. 08 Seattle, WA - Rendezvous*
Jun. 09 Portland, OR - The Know*
Jun. 10 Oakland, CA - 1234Go!*
Jun. 11 San Francisco, CA - The Knockout*
Jun. 12 Los Angeles - McWorld (w/ Nasa Space Universe)
Jun. 13 Los Angeles - Felix 54 (w/ Green Screen Door and Lamps)

* w/ Wax Idols

Praise For White Lung:

"...a hunk of hot-to-the-touch, hardcore-informed noise that packs 20 years of punk moves into two very ferocious minutes." - Spin

"If Ric Froberg of Hot Snakes, Drive Like Jehu and Obits fame was a woman and was slightly influenced more by hardcore, you'd get White Lung" - Get Bent

"Vancouver post-punk monsters White Lung took the cake with their 2010 epic It's the Evil, claiming the top spot in our Exclaim! Punk Year in Review and cementing themselves as one of the most exciting bands in Canada today." - Exclaim!

Deftones + Former ISIS Members Form Palms

[press release] Meet Palms, a newly formed Los Angeles based quartet featuring three former members of ISIS (Aaron Harris, Clifford Meyer and Jeff Caxide) with Deftones' vocalist Chino Moreno.

"Clifford, Jeff and I started Palms a little over a year ago out of a desire to continue making music together after ISIS ended," explained Harris. "Chino joined shortly after and our sound took shape from there. We've worked really hard on this first release and are excited for people to hear it. It's nice to be back behind the drum kit, and with this line up."

"Being a huge ISIS fan I've always dug the moods these dudes convey with their sound," added Moreno. "I am excited to combine my sense of creativity with theirs, and to have fun doing so."

Palms' debut album will be issued by ISIS' former label, Ipecac Recordings, and is slated for a 2012 release with a release date to be announced soon. The album was recorded and mixed by Harris, and produced by Palms.

Palms is Jeff Caxide (bass/keyboards), Aaron Harris (drums), Clifford Meyer (guitar/keyboards) and Chino Moreno (vocals).

Capsula Return to New York

[press release] Spanish-based psychedelic rock trio, CAPSULA, is returning to NYC following their fifth SXSW, March performances at Pianos and Cake Shop and a slew of European tour dates. Capsula's Martin Guevara (vocals/guitar), Coni Duchess (vocals/bass), and drummer Nacho, will be hitting the stage at Highline Ballroom on May 23 at 9PM. Highline Ballroom is located at 431 West 16th Street between 10th and 9th Ave.

Capsula's ripping hour-long set will feature songs from the critically acclaimed sophomore album and sonic masterpiece, In The Land of Silver Souls (Krian Music Group) that has been garnering nationwide praise from media and fans alike. Their music roars with a combination of garage rock toughness and modern style that have earned them a wide range of comparisons from The Stooges and Pixies to Sonic Youth and David Bowie.

Their first single 'Hit 'n' Miss' kicks off with a classic garage rock riff, before Martin rips into a Bowie-esque tale about the rise and fall of those seeking fast stardom in the big city. Watch the video for "Hit 'n' Miss" below.

"The album's single, "Hit 'N' Miss," resonates like a distant cousin to David Bowie's "Suffragette City," featuring a chorus that should have you singing along fairly quickly." - RCRD LBL

"Listeners who have been hankering for a satisfying set of down and dirty rock and roll basics, served up with energy and panache, will find their dreams answered. Party on, Garth." - PopMatters

Witnessing Capsula live is an experience not easily forgotten, as they tear though blistering washes of guitar and pounding rhythms delivered with the true essence of punk rock attitude.

Capsula continues to prove that rock and roll is definitely a universal language. You don't have to understand every lyric of a Capsula song to capture the unbound emotion of their dirty rock.

The Afghan Whigs Set to Play NYC with Eagles of Death Metal

[press release] The Afghan Whigs are pleased to announce they will be performing at Terminal 5 in New York City on October 5th with special guests Eagles Of Death Metal.

Tickets for this show will go on sale this Friday (April 27th) at Noon EST and can be purchased HERE.

There will be a special pre-sale for Afghan Whigs and Eagles Of Death Metal fans beginning Wednesday, April 25th at 10AM EST and ending on Friday, April 27th at 11AM EST [password can be found on The Afghan Whigs facebook page].

The Afghan Whigs (who have reunited after a 13 year hiatus) have announced 23 worldwide shows to date for 2012 including performances at Lollapalooza, ATP’s I’ll Be Your Mirror (London & NJ), Primavera Sound (Barcelona & Portugal) among numerous others. The New York City show is the first non-festival appearance going on sale in North America.

Formed in 1986, the band's career from then until 2001 saw them release six critically acclaimed albums during their career. Fusing classic rock with grunge-era distortion and a heavy soul influence, The Afghan Whigs were one of the most renowned live bands of their time.

Ume + The Life & Times Announce Co-Headlining Tour

[press release] Ume today announced a run of co-headlining dates with The Life and Times. The trek will begin in the band's hometown on June 8th and wind down in Denver, Colorado on June 19th.

Hailing from Austin, Texas, Ume is Lauren Larson (Vocals, Guitar), Eric Larson (Bass), and Rachel Fuhrer (drums). The trio's music is one of beautiful juxtapositions: the loud and soft, the aggressive and eerie, buoyant melodies bursting through wall-of-noise dissonance. Ume explores the artier, heavier side of indie rock, post-punk, and alternative rock. The band merges soaring fretwork with indelible pop hooks, radiant choruses, and front-woman Lauren Larson's ethereal vocals.

"Distortion-heavy jams invite comparisons to Sonic Youth, but Ume do more headbanging and wailing," Rolling Stone exclaimed while declaring them one of the 16 best, unsigned acts in the country prior to their signing last year. While critics will inevitably clamor for comparisons, Ume is ultimately a beast unto itself.

With Phantoms, their full-length album released in August of 2011 by Modern Outsider Records, Ume harnessed their carefully crafted chaos into ten tracks, capturing the unhinged passion and raw catharsis of their live shows while pushing their ever-evolving sound to impressive new heights. Like a bridge between Black Sabbath and Bat For Lashes, the LP is heavy, anthemic, beautiful and mesmerizing.

Ume has already garnered impressive reviews in the media. Nylon declared, "this band is ready to break out in a whole new way... A little like fuzzy shoegaze, raw garage rock and irresistible pop all rolled into one fiery package," while Relix proclaimed the music as "heavy rock and ethereal indie pop with deft precision, finding new ground somewhere in between Warpaint, Metric and Mogwai." Ume recently caught the attention of celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain who attended and taped one of the band's many packed shows at SXSW for an upcoming episode of his TV show No Reservations. To quote Bourdain, it was "... a shitload of rawk in a tiny little room."

See them for yourself...

Liars Debut "No. 1 Against The Rush" Video

[press release] LiarsAngus Andrew, Aaron Hemphill and Julian Gross – release the new video for “No. 1 Against The Rush” the first single from their eagerly awaited new album, WIXIW.

The eerie video, which sees each member of the band abducted by a shadowy figure in downtown LA, was made by Todd Cole, the director and photographer best known for his films for Rodarte. Watch it below.

Aaron Hemphill discusses the video, “Beginning with Patrick Daughters' video for Plaster Casts Of Everything, we've really enjoyed giving directors complete freedom in executing a visual interpretation of a Liars song entirely based on their own reaction to the song, free from any factual references or creative input from us. We were really won over by Todd Cole's enthusiasm for “No. 1 Against The Rush”, as well as his very musical and rhythmic pacing in his treatment. Despite being wrapped head to toe in plastic, being dragged through broken glass, and being strangled to the ground, we had the easiest job to do on the set and we eagerly look forward to any new forms of punishment that can be inflicted upon us in making the next video.”

“No. 1 Against The Rush” is released on 12” and digital download on May 29th, and precedes the 11-track album, WIXIW (pronounced “wish you”), out June 5th, 2012. The single will feature remixes of the title track from Vince Clarke (Erasure / VCMG / Yaz) and Matmos plus exclusive b-side, “We’ll Never Learn”.

The title, WIXIW, is explained by Angus Andrew, “’wish you’ is a familiar and universal sentiment of longing and hope, but when misspelt becomes uniquely shrouded and difficult to interpret, which in many ways is representative of our music and the songs we wrote for this album”.

WIXIW is Liars’ sixth studio album and the follow up to 2010’s critically lauded Sisterworld, which garnered an 8.1 Pitchfork rating and Best New Music distinction.

The album, with artwork designed by John Weise, will be available on CD, deluxe vinyl (with CD) and limited edition vinyl with silk-screened embossed covers hand dipped in black wax by the band. Pre-order is available HERE where you can see images of the limited edition run being produced.

Recorded in LA, self-produced by the band with additional production from Daniel Miller and mixed by Tom Biller, the album, is hard to shake, tough to pin down, and impossible to get out of one’s head even after an initial listen. Simultaneously the most accessible and most challenging release from these iconoclasts, it is both a summation of Liars’ work up to now, and a complete break from anything you’d ever heard the band do previously.

“If we aren’t confusing people, it’s not us,” Andrew laughs. “If we aren’t confusing ourselves with what we do, then we’ve failed.”

EIS Review: Torche - Harmonicraft

Review by Sam Carter

Okay so prior to listening to this I was really worried. After the first play through I couldn't decide something - was it good as it was damn good, or was it good as it was Torche? From a band that bridge that gap between metal and dare I say it, pop, so well I just didn't know what to expect.

Harmonicraft is a multi-layered dream. On each listen, another part is stripped back and heard differently. Take the free download of "Kicking" - my first thought was how almost Foo Fighters-esque this sounded, how commercially viable this was. Stadium rock Torche? Yeah, that's not for me.

Then I listened again. And again. And again. And it's so good. Steve [Brooks]' vocals are clearer, more distinctive. That wonderful fuzz ever reminiscent of every Torche release is there, but clearer. Heavy bass? Yep. That's there. But has a clean feel. Songs like "Snakes are Charmed", "Kicking", "Sky Trials" and "Roaming" stand out, but there isn't a bad track.

All in all, they've done it again. It's a great record. A really great record, in fact. I'd happily put this up there in my top 20 of the end of the year lists already. It isn't as raw sounding as Meanderthal, but this works better in so many ways. I'm glad they haven't tried to recreate an old sound, as Harmonicraft works so well for them.

Also, "Kiss me dudely"? Probably the best sing title I've ever heard.

Blacklisters Unleash Highly Anticipated Debut "BLKLSTRS" - Now Available!

BLKLSTRS is an unrelenting noise rock tour de force. Billy Mason-Wood's skewed and often terrifying vocals with Dante Beesley's sharp, distinctive guitar demand you undivided attention. Whilst underneath, Owen Griffiths' marauding bass lines and Alistair Stobbart's unrelenting drumming drive the songs with genuine menace. Taking cues from Leeds favorites Pulled Apart By Horses and label mates Kong, Blacklisters have drawn comparisons to 400 Blows, Shellac and early Glassjaw. With Dan Carter (BBC Radio1 Rock Show) likening them to noise rock giants The Jesus Lizard, Blacklisters pull no punches.

The Stone Roses Photograph Exhibit to Open in London

[NME.com] An exhibition featuring photographs of The Stone Roses taken by Kevin Cummins, Paul Slattery and Ian Tilton is set to open in London this summer.

Running from June 13 to August 12, the exhibit coincides with the Manchester band's comeback shows in Manchester and at a number of European festivals. The Stone Roses: The Third Coming is being called The Definitive Stone Roses Exhibition and will feature over 70 images of the band as well as memorabilia.

The exhibition, which takes place at Whiteleys Shopping Centre in Bayswater, London, will be made up of live, on the road, in the studio and previously unseen portrait shots of the iconic group, and has been curated by Dave Brolan. Of the exhibition Brolan says: "These three photographers – Kevin Cummins, Paul Slattery and Ian Tilton – have, between them, captured pretty much every major artist of the last 30 years, many as they were still unknown or emerging... Together, they helped shape the image of The Stone Roses."

Ian Brown
and the band will play V Festival and T In The Park this summer, along with slots at Benicassim, Optimus Alive, Fuji Rock, Tennent's Vital, NorthSide and Hultsfred.

Meanwhile, the group recently revealed the full support bills of their Heaton Park reunion shows, with Primal Scream, Beady Eye and Plan B heading up the support slots on each of the three nights from June 28 to July 1.

T In The Park is taking place July 6-8 in Balado Park, Kinross.

The Black Keys Discuss Fame with NME

[NME.com] Dan Auerbach, frontman of blues duo The Black Keys, has said in a new interview that he and drummer Patrick Carney 'didn't want to be rock stars'.

Speaking to Interview Magazine, Auerbach said that success doesn't matter to the band. He explained:

"We don't have expectations or dreams, because those will always just bite you in the ass. We're very content with where we are and the speed we've been going. The only way we got through was by keeping our expectations very low. We didn't want to be rock stars."

He added: "It's not about success. Whatever happens, it doesn't matter. I would like to not go bankrupt or get some incurable disease, but other than that, I'm just happy to keep going."

In the same interview, Auerbach said that he wasn't 'typical frontman material', stating that he doesn't crave the spotlight. "Some people love being on stage and really open up, and I'm sort of the opposite of that," he said. "I don't crave the spotlight. I'm still not comfortable even talking on stage."

The Black Keys recently featured on a brand new episode of celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain's cult travel show No Reservations. The program aired in the United States earlier this week.

The Black Keys headlined the first weekend of Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California on April 13 and return to the site this Friday night (April 20) for the festival's second weekend.
