SCUZZY THOUGHTS: Gaytheist are the type of band who's aggressive stoner pop and sludge punk sound is both violent and unashamedly hilarious. Their ferocious charge comes in short blasts (only one song on the record beyond two and half minutes in length) but the impression left in its wake is anything but short lived. The Portland, OR based trio has been making records for several years already, but Stealth Beats is their first for new Seattle based heavyweight label Good To Die Records. Gaytheist is bubbling with tongue-in-cheek humor (if the band's name wasn't already tipping you off), and "Post Apocalyptic Lawsuit" is a prime example with the anthemic chorus, "no one left to sue". The bands hybrid of The Jesus Lizard garbled noise and the sheer and shimmering post-metal splendor of Torche comes together effortlessly over the twelve tracks of their record, a hard biting contusion of catchy melodies and earthquaking rhythmic thrusts. One of the year's finest records if you like your chaos delivered with a smile.
