SCUZZY THOUGHTS: There is no greater force in garage rock than San Francisco's Thee Oh Sees, a band that defies expectations, forever pushing their fuzzed out bliss further into new territory. With eight full length records in about six years, John Dwyer and co. have stayed busy on the road, building a reputation as one of the greatest live bands in the world. The band more than lives up to the hype. Their shows are filled with endless energy as they blast through their catalog of hypnotic psych and jangly noise soaked pop. Each member of the band, Dwyer, Brigid Dawson, Petey Dammit, and Mike Shoun put everything they have into each performance, and it certainly doesn't go unnoticed. It's a celebration in fuzz, and it's safe to say the band are blowing minds every night on the road.
Putrifiers II, their latest record, takes their garage punk sound into stunning krautrock influenced territory, opting for cleaner production and mesmerizing instrumentation throughout. The songs are still deeply bizarre (So Nice, Wax Face), jangly and filled with sing-a-long hooks (Flood's New Light, Hang A Picture), and mentally expansive in a manner that Syd Barrett would have appreciated (Lupine Dominus, Will We Be Scared). There's nothing Thee Oh Sees can't do, and everything is that much better when you see them in concert. Screw the circus, this is the greatest show on Earth.
See them at the following upcoming shows:
10/09/2012 Doug Fir Lounge Portland OR w/Sic Alps
10/12/2012 Great American Music Hall San Francisco, CA w/Sic Alps, The Mallard + more
