SCUZZY THOUGHTS: Mrs. Magician began releasing scrappy 7" singles back in late 2010 with "There Is No God" and the jangly haze of "The Spell". Shortly after the San Diego quartet were signed to the renowned and suddenly active once again, Swami Records and ready to release their full length debut Strange Heaven. The set is comprised of reverb soaked surf pop loaded with psychedelic charm and clever lyrics from guitarist/singer Jacob Turnbloom. Colorful tracks like "There is No God" and "I'm Gonna Hangout With The Lesbians Next Door & Drop Acid" serve as indication that this is triumphantly far from your typical pop experience. Despite their sunny sound, Mrs. Magician have a gloomy tendency that creates a perfect juxtaposition within their punk channeled surf pop sound. Strange Heaven is the type of record that should be enjoyed on repeat for prolonged stretches of time, with catchy tunes and warped garage anthems that will have you instantly signing along. The band spent much of the Spring on tour with indie poppers Cults (the bands share a drummer) and we can only hope they'll be hitting the road again soon.
