Quick Notes: Thee Oh Sees, Bleeding Rainbow, The Stone Roses

"It's always a little threatening to take on material I consider perfect as is," says Thee Oh Sees frontman John Dwyer. "The only rule being, don't fuck it up." But in covering the Velvet Underground's "European Son," the "perfect material" in question, Dwyer and his San Francisco garage-punk crew never came close to fucking anything up at all — their faithful contribution to the forthcoming, Castle Face-helmed tribute Velvet Underground & Nico is every bit as volatile as the original. "I thought it was a great closer for that album," he says of the song, coda to the legendary New York outfit's 1967 debut LP. "I figured I could ride the noise-wave pretty far on that particular tune." He definitely does. Hear it for the first time HERE.

*[stereogum.com] Philly garage-poppers Bleeding Rainbow, formerly Reading Rainbow, will return early next year with their new album Yeah Right. The video for their raggedly catchy new single “Drift Away” alternates foggy band-performance footage with a tough-to-follow stop-motion narrative about a skull-faced alien scientist. Watch it below.

Yeah Right is out 1/29 on Kanine.

*[consequenceofsound.net] The Stone Roses have opted not to go the way of Refused and instead continue their reunion tour into 2013. The band has announced three new shows in London and Glasgow for June, in addition to an appearance at Australia’s Future Music Festival in March. The Glasgow show will feature support by Primal Scream, Jake Bugg, and The View. Check out the full docket below.

Aside from booking more shows, The Stone Roses have been working on new music and will be the subject of a documentary.
