*[pitchfork.com] If you're an ISIS devotee, you're probably wondering what "Ghost Key," the second track from the band's 2009 finale, Wavering Radiant, is doing on the band's posthumous rarities and remixes compilation, Temporal. Worry no more: This demo omits Aaron Turner's domineering roar and lyrics about sacrifices and shadows, giving the quintet space to show its ghosted guitar tones and full-band surges. They prove an ensemble of premium grace and maneuverability, each part, sprint, and pause perfectly nested within the whole. If you're not yet an Isis devotee, this rendition of "Ghost Key" successfully recapitulates the band's scope and force while offering a more genial inlet to the band's overwhelming discography.

*[consequenceofsound.net] Jack White’s bucket list keeps getting smaller. Despite being in the industry for over a decade, and hanging out with the likes of Jay-Z, he’s only now crossing off “rapping”. Yes, “Blues on Two Trees”, the B-side to his forthcoming 7″ single “I’m Shakin’”, sports a deep-fried Mississippi gumbo of distortion, which White urgently spits rhymes over. Call it prophetic or just great timing, but a line like “Three trees lying on the side of the road/ One tree barks, ‘Where the hell do we go?’” is far too haunting to ignore. It begs the question: Shall we call the next hurricane Jack? Throw on a raincoat (if you haven’t already) and decide for yourself below.
Members of Third Man Records’ Vault can stream “Blues on Two Trees” in full HERE. The “I’m Shakin’” 7″ will be available tomorrow, October 30th, via Third Man Records. Pre-order your physical copy HERE or download on iTunes.
