*Baltimore, MD's generally noisy post-punk rockers Weekends (not to be confused with Weekend... who are also awesome) released a new album of acoustic material, conveniently titled Acoustic Tape Vol. 1 last Friday, September 21st. Released through Friends Records, the 17 track effort features tracks from last year's spectacular Strange Cultures LP as well as their self titled debut and beyond. Released digitally and on cassette, the duo had been recording the songs to four-track tape over the past three years and the results are spectacular. The cassette is available to buy HERE and stream the entire album below...
*It seems that OVLOV mastermind Steve Hartlett isn't the only Hartlett boy with a knack for writing early 90's influenced indie guitar pop. FLAT SWAMP is the solo project of recent OVLOV drummer Theo Hartlett. He just released his debut EP "Nicholas Cage Match" via Bandcamp which is available at a "Name Your Price" scale. Filled with catchy hooks, fuzzed out guitars and a persistent lo-fi thrust of power pop aggression, it seems some things run in the family. OVLOV fans and anyone who enjoys quality blissed out guitar jams in the vein of Built to Spill, Harvey Danger, and Superdrag should definitely check it out. The EP was produced by Grass Is Green's Jesse Weiss.
In related news, OVLOV are gearing up to record their highly anticipated full length debut this Fall with the aforementioned Jesse Weiss and Grass Is Green's Mike Thomas III. The record will see a release in early 2013 on vinyl/digital through our very own Exploding In Sound Records. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months. In the meantime, OVLOV will be playing an official CMJ show as part of Exploding In Sound and Gimme Tinnitus' EISGTCMJ2012 extravaganza on Saturday, October 20th. Don't miss out on this one, it's gonna be a blowout. Listen/download both OVLOV and Flat Swamp below.

*Shipping News have announced that band members Kyle Crabtree and Todd Cook are working on a new record with Shannon Wright (Quarterstick Records). There is no word if the release will be under the Shipping News moniker, but without the inclusion of Jeff Mueller, I'm inclined to doubt it. Shipping News all too recently experienced the heartfelt passing of founding member Jason Noble, and it remains to be seen if they will continue onward with the band. Either way, great to know the guys are working on new music and we'll keep you posted.
