Quick Notes: Ty Segall, Melvins, Caspian + More

*[SPIN.com] Just two months after uncaging his second full-length of this year (the wondrous Slaughterhouse, written and recorded with his touring band) Ty Segall is officially prepping the release of his third, Twins, the solo follow-up to last year's Goodbye Bread. It's a devil-horned effort whose forthcoming fury he touched upon in conversation with us earlier this year. "The Hill," a Lennon-indebted, elephant-heavy first single, is now set to arrive on September 4 via Drag City [while Twins will be available October 9]. Hear it below:

*[theprp.com] The Melvins are readying a new 12″ vinyl pressing of their Melvins Lite release, “Freak Puke“. The outing will see five different artists contribute picture disc art for the release, with a preview available over at the bands Facebook. A release date for the new pressing has yet to be revealed.

*Rolling Stone are offering our first listen to Caspian's new record Waking Season with the debut of "Halls of the Summer".

"'Halls of the Summer' came together after I bought a sampling machine and started to digitally manipulate instruments like vocals, mellotrons, pianos and flutes," guitarist Philip Jamieson explains to Rolling Stone. "Balancing these new sounds with the familiarity of what we do naturally as a band felt powerful, bridging the gap between the intimacy of textured instrumentation and the full-on attack of a rock band guided us through the creation of this piece."

*Dublin, Ireland's Jogging are streaming their sophomore album Take Courage via their Bandcamp page. The LP is set to be released on August 24th via Out On A Limb Records.

*[consequenceofsound.net] The Flaming Lips theatrical adaptation of Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots finally has a premiere date, as You Ain’t No Picasso points out. The Des McAnuff-directed production will run from November 6th to December 16th at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, California. Here’s a brief plot summary provided by La Jolla’s website:

"Yoshimi is a young Japanese artist facing the battle of her life: the battle for her life. Adrift from her family and lover, Yoshimi journeys alone into a fantastical robot-world where she wages a war with fate. Will her will to survive be powerful enough to master the evil forces that threaten to destroy her? Inspired by the whimsical and psychedelic music of Wayne Coyne and The Flaming Lips, this world premiere musical integrates music from several albums (“Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots,” “The Soft Bulletin,” “At War with the Mystics”) with Coyne and multiple Tony Award-winning director Des McAnuff’s poignant, humanistic story about the triumph of love and optimism over the mystery of our own mortality. The result is dazzling, multi-media experience that offers an allegory of our modern battle for progressive thought and individuality in the face of blind acceptance and conformity."

Auditions for several roles will take place this month in New York City. Click HERE for more info.
