[press release] This week, Vancouver duo Japandroids kick off four straight months of touring, beginning August 14th at Portugual's Paredes De Coura Festival. In addition to the already announced European dates, the band has added shows in October, with stops in Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Greece and the UK, finishing up at Pitchfork Music Festival Paris. The band will then follow up their June/July sold out North American tour with headlining dates beginning after their November 1st performance at Fun Fun Fest in Austin. A recent review of their last NYC show by the NY Times said,"Of recent two-member bands - from the White Stripes to the Black Keys to No Age and more - Japandroids have by far the most exuberant, affirming live show." All North American tickets go on sale this Friday. See all tour dates below.
And today, Japandroids debut their first music video exclusively at Pitchfork x Youtube for their single "The House That Heaven Built". The video finds director Jim Larson traveling with the band on their last tour, filming at sold out shows in Toronto, Montreal, Boston, NYC, Brooklyn, DC and their life on the road in between. "The House That Heaven Built" spent four straight weeks as #1 at college radio and it has become the #1 specialty single of 2012.
Japandroids released their long awaited follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2009 debut Post-Nothing, Celebration Rock, on June 5th, debuting at #37 on the Billboard charts. The album was produced by Jesse Gander and Japandroids and has been called "one of the year's most thrilling rock records" by Rolling Stone and "a rock record for the ages" by Pitchfork and the critics have unanimously agreed with that. The album has also been shortlisted for the prestigious Polaris Prize in Canada.
