*[theprp.com] A report on Classicrockmagazine.com states that two previously unheard tracks from late Alice In Chains vocalist Layne Staley will appear on the soundtrack for the upcoming film “Grassroots“. No further details were offered on the songs.

*[consequenceofsound.net] With the music video for the epic 15-minute cut “The Malkin Jewel”, The Mars Volta decided to keep things simple, focusing solely on a minimalist live performance. Sure, there’s no silly happenings to giggle at or a clever ending to mull over, but their frantic, evocative delivery is captivating enough to keep your eyes glued to the screen for all 900 seconds. Watch it below (via SPIN.com). The band’s latest album, Noctourniquet, is out now via Warner Bros. Records.

*[theprp.com] Baroness‘ “First” and “Second” EP’s have been compiled into a deluxe double 12″ vinyl release via Robotic Empire. Along with new packaging, the set features a new mixing and mastering job. The pressing was limited to 2000 copies with 1000 on opaque purple vinyl and 1000 on opaque “yellowy marble.” You can purchase the set now at Roboticempire.com with a preview of the entire set available HERE.

Baroness will also be releasing their new double album “Yellow & Green” through Relapse on July 17th.

*[consequenceofsound.net] New York noise rockers A Place to Bury Strangers will follow up February’s Onwards to the Wall EP with the release of their third LP, Worship, on June 26th via Dead Oceans. You can stream it now at Stereogum.

*[mtvhive.com] Brooklyn improv-punks Starring’s new song “….7….” starts with a series of repeating, menacing guitar clangs before settling into steady, bass and viola-led groove — and by the time Clara Hunter’s ghost-chants arrive, “…7….” it’s miles away from where it started. STREAM IT HERE.

“This was actually the last song we wrote for the record,” violinist Amy Cimini tells Hive. “As we were working we got more and more interested in experimenting with longer song forms that move through a wider range of styles and affects. “…7…” forced us figure out how take the long, sparse and brooding viola solo and develop it into the soaring, anthemic vocal line that closes the track. It’s certainly the song that encapsulates all the things that are explored on other songs.”

At nearly ten minutes, “….7….” has more ideas than many band’s entire albums, venturing from eerie Slint-isms to Krupa beats to circus goth, while ending up with a final number that defines a highly singular vocabulary. Which seems appropriate for a single from an album called ABCDEFG-HIJKLMNOP-QRSTUV-WXYZ (out now on Northern Spy Records).

*[theprp.com] ÆGES (Pelican, etc.) and Silver Snakes have booked the following west coast run together for July. In addition, ÆGES are also readying a new 7″ release through The Mylene Sheath. The effort will feature the previously-released track “Southern Comfort” along with a new song by the name of “Stars“. Expect a late summer / early fall release for that.
