Icarus Himself Announce Tour Dates

[press release] Madison, Wisconsin-based indie-psych folk trio Icarus Himself announces a string of summer dates in support of their latest album, Career Culture. The band is also giving away the track "Anywhere You Go" as a free MP3 download/stream [below] - a video will follow soon.

Icarus Himself has been building consistent buzz - including a 30-minute PBS live performance special, a Daytrotter Session, media coverage from the likes of Magnet, The Onion AV Club, Prefix, Some Kind Of Awesome, and more - while sharing the stage with some of music's hottest acts such as Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Here We Go Magic, Tapes 'n Tapes among others. The brainchild of former National Beekeepers Society frontman Nick Whetro, Icarus Himself also features Whetro's Beekeper bandmate multi-instumentalist Karl Christenson and drummer Brad Kolberg.

Career Culture is the third in a series of autobiographical recordings the band has released through Science Of Sound, beginning with Coffins (2009), followed by the Mexico EP(2010). The album is inspired by Whetro's journey from a factory worker in Indiana to his new life as a musician and family man in Madison.

"Most of the songs are based on my life experience. Working in a factory in a small, depressing town had a great deal of influence on these songs, as did getting married and settling down new roots in Wisconsin," explains Whetro.

Career Culture was recorded at Science of Sound's studio, engineered by Ricky Riemer and mixed with the band with the help of Riemer. Guest players include Michael Gallope (Janka Nabay & the Bubu Gang, Starring, Skeletons) on keys, Jonathan Lang on keys and clarinet, as well as cellist Jacqueline Kursel, and saxophonist Rob Ferrett.
