[review by Sam Carter] Blacklisters - BLKLSTRS
The following review is dedicated to dudes and babes that we purely think dirty thoughts about. This is the music I will now hear when I think of you. After this review I'm going for a damn shower.
BLKLSTRS is just dirty, noisy, definitely sweaty, sexy music. It's walking down a street, making eye contact with some babe, and just going internally crazy.
Slurred vocals, hypnotic guitar tones, that drum and the bass that's the soundtrack to a snuff film. This whole thing wreaks of sleaze, and I'm so into it. With song titles like "Club Foot by Kasabian," "I Can Confirm that Ruth Abigail Holmes is Not Dead and is Planning to Make a Movie About Her Life," and "Ask Yourself a Question if the Answer is Go Fuck Yourself" you could assume that song writing took a backseat in the creative process - well you're wrong, basically. You can't make music straight out of your bedroom like this. These guys have evolved to get this sound, which makes it so good.
The production and musicianship on BLKLSTRS is so high, with those guitar touches adding a dream to the bass that pounds and sludges for 40 minutes. They are another testament to the incredible Leeds music scene which has just come back into the limelight in the UK, but with debut LPs like this you can hear why.
There's a crazy video for "Trickfuck" right now. Watch it then buy BLKLSTRS, and fear for your sexy lives. Blacklisters are coming for you.
For fans of - Jesus Lizard, sex, Daughters, sludge, not Kasabian
Also - a real special mention to Simon over at Brew Records for sorting me out with a download whilst I'm waiting for my vinyl to arrive.
