Speedy Ortiz, the solo project of Quilty's Sarah Dupius, has released their debut full length The Death of Speedy Ortiz for FREE download on Bandcamp. Exploding In Sound can't possibly recommend this enough. We've been going over our "Top 40 Albums of 2011" list for the past few weeks, and Speedy Ortiz definitely ranks with the best of them. The influence of early 90s indie guitar rock and lo-fi grunge present a raw simplicity that flourishes thanks to the gorgeous and haunting vocal melodies and dazzling guitar tone. Dupius' songwriting talents are on display in full force shimmering over buzzing guitars, overwhelmingly dense bass lines, and thick blistering melodies that stick like glue. There is an undeniable stoner charm hidden in the swirling noise, and the "slacker" spirit and soul of Speedy Ortiz allows the warm home recordings to sound enormous. With a solo debut as good as The Death of Speedy Ortiz, we can only hope this is just the beginning. Stay tuned for more from Speedy Ortiz in the near future and be sure to follow on Facebook for updates.
