*[consequenceofsound.net] Some two decades ago, Bitch Magnet began their rise to the top of America’s burgeoning post-hardcore subculture with the noisy, feedback-heavy, angst-fueled chords of Umber‘s lead-single “Motor”. Now less than a month out from ending a lengthy hiatus with a live show in Seoul, and subsequent performance at ATP’s Nightmare Before Christmas, the trio is kickstarting volume two of their career with the same classic track. Cut from their forthcoming eponymous titled box set, the crisp, even more powerful, remastered “Motor” is just small piece of the 34-track career spanning compilation. Revisit the track below, being cautious not to pull a neck muscle. Then make sure to do your civic duty, and contact whomever you may know to bring Bitch Magnet back to the States for a live show!

*[rollingstone.com] Craig Wedren's latest album, Wand, finds the veteran indie rocker sounding revitalized following a reunion with his old band Shudder to Think. The record plays up Wedren's versatile songwriting talent and his gorgeous, wonderfully elastic voice, but the best cuts play up a rocking intensity that has been missing from his work in recent years. "I Know," the disc's heaviest cut, is super-charged and beat-heavy, with Wedren's voice taking on a gleefully mischievous tone as he sings, "It's fun to treat you badly." Wand is in stores now, but you can download "I Know" for free HERE [right click, save as].
*[puregrainaudio.com] Eksi Ekso is currently recording LP #3 in North Carolina and Brooklyn with Scott Solter (Spoon, Pattern Is Movement, John Vanderslice) behind the boards, marking the first time the band has worked with an outside producer.
Where the band's latest release 'Brown Shark Red Lion' (2011, The Mylene Sheath) was a lush and fully orchestrated affair with multiple guests, the new material finds the Boston/Portland trio drawing back on the layering and embracing a more lean and direct approach - playing all the instruments themselves while allowing plenty of space in the process. About half way through tracking the band mentioned that "…it's the most upbeat pop-ish type material we've ever written, and Solter has been a tremendous asset through the process - getting amazing sounds and allowing us to really hone in on a sound that brings in a dance-y element." The forthcoming record should see a release sometime in mid-2012 on The Mylene Sheath.
