Quick Notes: Hot Snakes, Foo Fighters, Mastodon + More

*[punknews.org] Hot Snakes have added a pair of New York City-area shows to their reunion, which previously included appearances at Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, TX and All Tomorrow's Parties in Minehead, UK. The band will perform at the Bell House in Brooklyn on December 1 and Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ on December 2. No word on if more shows will be added.

Hot Snakes, which itself rose from the ashes of Rocket From The Crypt and Drive Like Jehu, disbanded in 2005. Members have gone on to play in bands such as Night Marchers, Obits, OFF!, and Sultans. Check out a recent interview with Rick Froberg about the reunion shows below...

*[consequenceofsound.net] On Thursday night, Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins stopped by Conan, where they not only performed (“Walk”), but also discussed various atypical “everyday happenings” like getting a speeding ticket from an anti-Team Coco police officer, dressing up as Amy Carter kicking off what has become a long career in drag, and putting together a rock documentary about a band with, and to quote Mr. Grohl, “the stupidest fucking band name ever.” As usual with anything from this troupe, it’s downright entertaining. Band of the year? Well, we won’t say it now, but offer us some other alternatives, because… we’re all out of ‘em...

*[theprp.com] Mastodon have a new music video in the works for their single “Curl Of The Burl“. The group are working with director Robert Schober (aka Roboshobo) (Metallica, Disturbed) on the clip. Their new album “The Hunter” is scheduled to arrive in stores on September 27th through Reprise.

*[theprp.com] Soundgarden‘s Chris Cornell has a video for his song “The Keeper” in the works with director Isaac Rentz (Cage The Elephant, Manchester Orchestra). The song itself will be released as part of the soundtrack to the upcoming “Machine Gun Preacher” film.

*[consequenceofsound.net] Bush have posted a video for their new single "The Sound of Winter". The song comes from their latest album The Sea of Memories due to hit stores September 13th via Zuma Rock...

*[pitchfork.com] Two months ago, we shared an unreleased Elliott Smith song, "The Real Estate", taken from the three-disc homeless youth benefit compilation Live From Nowhere Near You. For those who bought a physical copy of that compilation, there's a code hidden in the album artwork that can be entered at Greyday's website for a download [STREAM HERE] of the original version of "The Real Estate" performed by Smith and his high school band, Stranger Than Fiction. The download also includes the artwork for the cassette it was originally released on, as well as letters from Smith's Stranger Than Fiction bandmate Garrick Duckler and Kevin Moyer, who put together the compilation.

*[theprp.com] A 2xLP vinyl release of CKY‘sB-Sides & Rarities” release is currently set to ship out on September 20th. The set has been pressed on red and purple wax with pre-orders available here.
