[press release] Grace for Drowning, the new solo album from Steven Wilson now available to pre-order on Kscope.
Grace for Drowning is the second album released under Wilson’s own name, and builds on the artistic inroads he forged with 2009’s exceptionally well-received Insurgentes.
A double album ('two 40-45 minute albums in the same package') Wilson has described it as "my biggest project to date". He continues, “’Insurgentes’ was an important step for me into something new. This record takes that as a starting point, but it’s more experimental and more eclectic. For me the golden period for music was the late sixties and early seventies, when the album became the primary means of artistic expression, when musicians liberated themselves from the 3 minute pop song format, and started to draw on jazz and classical music especially, combining it with the spirit of psychedelia to create “journeys in sound” I guess you could call them. So without being retro, my album is a kind of homage to that spirit. There’s everything from [Ennio] Morricone-esque film themes to choral music to piano ballads to a 23 minute progressive jazz–inspired piece. I’ve actually used a few jazz musicians this time, which is something I picked up from my work remixing the King Crimson records.”
The blu-ray disc contains the album in 5.1 surround sound with accompanying video content. The video content, created by long-term collaborator Lasse Hoile, includes rare music videos starring Wilson (he’s only appeared in two previous music videos) as well as photo galleries, hand written notes and lyrics.
All 4 discs will be packaged in a hard back book which features 120 pages of artwork and notes.
The album will also be released in vinyl and compact disc formats, which are also now available to pre-order from the Kscope store.
The limited edition CD that is available from this site features both 'albums' over 2 discs in a 28 page rigid digi-book.
Due to the size and nature of the deluxe edition we are aware that shipping costs may be high to some parts of the world. For this reason, a limited number of the deluxe edition of Grace for Drowning will also be available from three stores in Western Europe (one each in Germany, Belgium and Holland) and one in North America.
Check the Grace for Drowning mini-site for pre-order links for these stores when they are available.
