Quick Notes: A Perfect Circle, Mastodon, Scott Weiland + More

*[theprp.com] A Perfect Circle will be touring with drummer Jeff Friedl (ASHES dIVIDE, Devo, etc.) this summer. The change comes as a result of Josh Freese opting to hit the road with Weezer instead.

*[theprp.com] Mastodon have revealed two working titles from their upcoming album which they have been in the studio working on as of late. They include “Blasteroids” and “All The Heavy Lifting“. Both songs are slated to appear on the new effort which the group say “will be coming soon.”

To date the band have laid down the drum tracks for the outing at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, CA and currently holed up at Atlanta’s Doppler Studios tracking the outing with producer Mike Elizondo (Avenged Sevenfold, Eminem).

In other news, the groups cover of ZZ Top‘s “Just Got Paid” will be featured on the upcoming “Transformers: Dark Of The Moon” soundtrack, which is due in stores on June 14th.

*[bravewords.com] According to the Late Night TV Page, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer Scott Weiland (ex-VELVET REVOLVER) will be guest on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno this Thursday, May 26th. The Tonight Show airs on NBC TV at 11:35 EST; check local listings for details.

According to WesthollywoodPatch, Scott Weiland will be signing his recently released memoir, Not Dead And Not For Sale, at Book Soup (8818 W Sunset Blvd) in West Hollywood, CA at 7 PM. Following the signing, Weiland has confirmed an intimate performance at The Viper Room at 10:30 p.m.

*[pitchfork.com] Yesterday, Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne tweeted that his band's collaboration with chameleon glitch-hop producer Prefuse 73 was "coming out later today" on a slab of psychedelically colored vinyl. And sure enough, four chaotic, fuzzed-out collaborative tracks from the Lips and Prefuse soon made their way to the Internet, in true Flaming Lips guerrilla fashion.

As Consequence of Sound points out, Psych Explorations of the Future Heart has posted YouTube streams of all four songs from the EP, and we've got all those streams HERE. Psych Explorations also notes that copies of the EP are for sale at Oklahoma City's Guestroom Records, which ought to make OKC residents feel just a little bit better about that brutal overtime Thunder playoff loss last night. (Thanks to reader James Lovett of Playful Prairie, who bought the EP and confirmed that the tracks are indeed legit.)

*While on tour last year, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club stopped by Amoeba Records in SF for an in-store when "Beat The Devil's Tattoo" was released. They filmed the set - and you can now watch it here...

*Belfast's LaFaro have released two brand new tracks from an upcoming 7" due out soon via Smalltown America Records. The new songs include recent live favorite "Easy Meat" and the similarly explosive "Wee Buns", and both can be streamed HERE!!

*Gypsyblood have posted the video for their track "Take Your Picture" below. The song comes from the band's full length debut Cold In The Guestway...

*[letters-from-a-tapehead.com] No Ripcord posted The Horrors' new single, "Still Life," as their Track of the Day. Their new album, Skying, will be out in July.

As their last album, Primary Colours, proved to be a huge creative leap from their self-titled debut, “Still Life” suggests that they’ve found comfortable footing in the 80s goth-wave they’ve both capitalized and expanded upon. Skying is something I’m looking forward to...

*[stereogum.com] Matador announced Stephen Malkmus’s latest album with The Jicks today via their Matablog. The record’s called Mirror Traffic, and it was produced by Beck Hansen. Malkmus and Hansen recorded the album in early 2010, but because of Pavement’s touring schedule, they put Mirror Traffic on hold until they had more time. Matador praises Stephen Malkmus’s “rapier wit” and “casual virtuosity” in the post, words that easily describe Beck as well. I’m guessing that they worked well together. They, at least, fulfilled every ’90s kid’s dream slacker collaboration. Mirror Traffic is out 8/23 via Matador.

The Matablog also says that this is drummer Janet Weiss’s last album with the Jicks. Joggers drummer Jake Morris will take over for their upcoming tour. (Weiss just finished a tour with Wild Flag.)

*Austin, TX's The Town Hall Devils have released their debut EP Vol. 1 for FREE download via their official website HERE. The band features two members of now defunct EIS favorites Exeter, with Ky on drums and Cam on guitar/vocals. Town Hall Devils is rounded out by Micah on vocals/guitar and Chris on bass/vocals. Check out the band's bio below...

"Old souls in new skins, the Town Hall Devils formed from ashes in Austin, Texas during the spring of 2010. The creationist fire was sparked with a reunion of sorts between old musical partners and long time friends and was made whole with the addition of a similar pair of the same. Fueled by old sounds from their youth and beyond, they are best described as a mix of bluesy, grungy, psychedelic garage rock with a hint of old country, the sounds to which devils have danced for many years now. Come to a show and/or grab a recording and let the Town Hall Devils play a tune or two for you."

*Passenger Peru, the new project from the minds behind the sadly departed Pet Ghost Project, have released their first batch of songs which can be streamed via their Bandcamp page HERE (or below). Opening track "Your Hunger" is pretty spectacular, and it seems the guys haven't strayed too far from their PGP past...
