Big Scary Monsters Post Update: Walter Schreifels, Tall Ships, Shapes + More

An update from Big Scary Monsters Records in the UK...

"Hi all, so here it is (merry Christmas, everybody's having fun), our final mailout of an exhausting but ultimately brilliant year. I did the whole "thanks, you're the best" stuff in November's post so don't want to dwell on it for too long, but, ya know... Thanks. You're the best. If you're in London on Wednesday (22nd), why not come down to the Surf Wax America xmas party at the Old Blue Last? It's free entry and promises to be quite the night. See below for more info on that, and a few other things we're rounding off the new year with/seeing 2011 in with...

01. BSM/Alcopop sampler
02. Surf Wax America #5
03. Christmas Tour thanks

Big Scary Monsters and Alcopop are proud to present, 'We Ruined His Birthday With An Invisible Balloon', a 14 track joint sampler featuring the likes of Kevin Devine, Johnny Foreigner, Tellison, Stagecoach, Tall Ships, The Attika State, Talons and loads more.

The compilation is available as a pay what you like download from http://bsmrocks.bandcamp.com and limited edition CD HERE. Each copy of the CD comes with a prize, ranging from a date with a member of My First Tooth to incriminating photos of Tall Ships to free CDs and money off vouchers galore! It costs £4 on its own or just £2 with any other purchase. See website for full tracklisting and info.

02. Surf Wax America #5
---------------------------------------------------
The final Surf Wax of the year and the first at our new home of the Old Blue Last. Just around the corner from Catch in Shoreditch, we're throwing a big Christmas party to see 2010 out in style. Look out for Santa, a couple of elves, over £300 worth of free BSM CDs (and bits and pieces from some friends), way too much free chocolate and, best of all, free entry! Jumping Ships will be playing live, first doing a set of their own songs at 9.30 followed by a set of brilliant festive covers at 10.30, surrounded by DJ sets from Punktastic and yours truly, whilst The 405 and Alcopop take over the downstairs room. Full info on Facebook HERE.

03. Christmas Tour thanks

Huge thanks to all who came out to see Tall Ships and Tangled Hair on the BSM Christmas Tour last week, we couldn't have asked for a more perfect way to see out what has been a wonderful year. Special thanks to those of you who sang your little hearts out! We just about defeated the weather and everyone had a great time along the way. Both bands will be back out on the road next year, and look out for new release info from both camps, coming soon...

Shapes are back from recording their debut album in Sweden. From all accounts it sounds HUGE and I can't wait to hear the first round of mixes. We'll be posting more info and hopefully a few snippets online in January... Talons, who are currently touring Europe, play a one-off show in London on 13th January at the Vibe Bar on Brick Lane. They'll be touring again in the Spring... Kevin Devine will be hitting the studio early next year to work on his new album, the follow up to 2009's brilliant 'Brother's Blood'... Hold Your Horse Is tour the UK in February with Mojo Fury and release a new digital single. You can get their cover of Paul McCartney's classic 'Wonderful Christmas Time' by signing up to their mailing list HERE... Dad Rocks! is in the studio back home in Denmark right now, recording his debut album, which is set for release early next summer. More information on that coming soon...

Happy Christmas y'all!" - Kev
