Neil Young's "Le Noise" Preview on Filter Magazine

[filtermagazine.com] First Impressions for Neil Young's Le Noise, set to be released through Reprise Records on September 28th, 2010...

Tracklist:

01. Walk With Me
02. Sign Of Love
03. Someone’s Gonna Rescue You
04. Love And War
05. Angry World
06. Hitchhiker
07. Peaceful Valley Boulevard
08. Rumblin’

First Impressions:

-The Godfather of Grunge is back with his first album since last year’s Fork in the Road. The album was recorded in Los Angeles and was produced by Daniel Lanois. Le Noise is a strictly solo album and has a good mix of acoustic and electric songs that have that distinct Neil Young sound.

-The album begins with heavy guitar feedback on “Walk With Me,” which sounds like a song from Young’s hard rock periods. The song’s tempo isn’t fast, but with the amount of distortion on the track it sounds like it could have been at home on 1990’s Ragged Glory.

-“Love And War” is an acoustic track that has a political tone similar to 2006’s Living With War. Young’s haunting vocals suit the song’s politically charged lyrics well.

-Lanois' famed feedback loops and hisses accent Young's introspective lyrics and haunting delivery.

Key Tracks: “Angry World,” “Hitchhiker”

Predictions:

Whether or not you like acoustic-Neil or electric-Neil, this is one of his best albums in nearly a decade. Though the sounds vary at certain points, Young’s lyrics and storytelling are excellent. Young and Lanois do an excellent job of making the sound feel warm yet lo-fit without using of a full band. The album will satisfy the casual and die-hard fan alike.
