[pitchfork.com] Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo has a long and bewildering history of random collaborations. He's linked up with Kenny G, Lil Wayne, Tay Zonday. But he hasn't done a ton of work with scrappy lo-fi bands.
This Tweet from the fired-up, unkempt British punk trio Male Bonding came as a legitimate shock: "Male Bonding recently went into the studio with Weezer's River Cuomo. WOW>". (It was a retweet from Time Out London.) We have confirmed that the collaboration did indeed happen.
Male Bonding's BNM'ed 2010 debut Nothing Hurts has some of the wide-eyed power-pop charm of those first two Weezer albums, but it belongs to a musical universe light years removed from anything Weezer has done in the past decade. What will this unlikely pairing accomplish together?
