TOP 100 ALBUMS OF THE DECADE!

The start of our new century in rock has been looked at with skeptical views from many music fans. Complaints of "nothing good being made" have run rampant, and are simply ridiculous. Times have changed, and with that so has the playing field for the music industry. There are far less superstars, major labels are becoming less and less important, and radio has pretty much failed to recognize anything not painfully generic. Since the dawn of this rapidly ending decade, great music has been made in enormous amounts, but providing that music to the over stimulated masses has become a far greater difficulty. Regardless, the fine bands of our generation are still creating music that is interesting, innovative, and ultimately... rocks.

Detractors are quick to point out there was no real "movement" associated to the 2000s, as the 90's had grunge, 80's new wave and hair metal, 70's prog and arena rock, 60's psychedelic and folk, and so on. Agreed, there wasn't a uniform sound for the decade, but it was a time for the blending are re-imagining of everything that has come before. Building upon the roots of decades past proved in turn to reignite and strengthen several fading genres such as shoegaze, progressive, psychedelic, and garage rock back to prominence. Bands such as Queens of the Stone Age, Dredg, The Mars Volta, Oceansize, The White Stripes, Muse, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, ...Trail of Dead, and Wintersleep emerged to develop incredibly solid catalogs of music, providing the next generation of time-tested classic albums. The decade wasn't entirely for the newcomers however, as bands like Tool, Radiohead, The Flaming Lips, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails, Deftones, Dinosaur Jr., and Cave In pushed the envelope further, taking their stellar careers to entirely new plateaus. It would be impossible to include all the unbelievable music that was released these past 10 years (hell, I'm still finding new things I haven't heard daily), but after great deliberation I have decided upon Exploding In Sound's TOP 100 ALBUMS OF THE DECADE.

With any list of this magnitude there are some disclaimers I'd like to make... there are no band repeats, meaning each artist is used once and only once. While this doesn't literally make it the top 100, it certainly makes it more interesting than including five albums from the same artist. If you see a band on the list, odds are they have several albums that could have been included, I picked my favorite and please feel free to leave your comments agreeing or disagreeing below and at the EIS Facebook page. Trying to pick these albums and place them in order is a daunting task, which I could constantly change around for years to come, so once I had finished, that was it. No more changes, no looking back, just one man's opinion. For any band/album I forgot or overlooked, sincere apologies... EIS still loves you.

And with that I present you with EXPLODING IN SOUND's TOP 100 ALBUMS OF THE DECADE...

some great picks there dan. and a lot I'll have to check out, too. perhaps NB's 101 right after Dave Navarro? ;)

Ridd, NB may just be ahead of Dave Navarro, but just like I said in the beginning, I'm sure there are things I missed. You know I got big love for all things Satellite Tragedy!

Great to see Karnivool on the list although I would have picked Themata over Sound Awake. I was surprised to see Guero on your list - I thought I was the only person in the world who loved that album. Top list!
