Recently reduced to a three-piece, the power pop band, The 88, have debuted a new video for their single “Go Go Go.” The 88 are no strangers to the LA scene and are regularly seen at local venues such as the Troubadour, where, they recently played a record release show. “Go Go Go” is the first single from their new album Not Only… But Also. The song exudes energy and has a catchy, easy to follow chorus.
Though the band is signed to a major record label, this video has an indie, DIY feel. It is not too difficult to visualize the post-production process consisting of the band members themselves working on Final Cut Pro. “Go Go Go” is an attempt by The 88 to demonstrate their sense of humor. Through the magical world of editing, the members are able to play practical jokes on one another, which include turning their instruments into household items, making each other wear dresses and morphing the lead singer into a baby. These antics, combined with each member whizzing through the studio on a banana peel, keep the video from moving up the video hierarchy from “cute” to OK Go's “A Million Way's” level of supremacy. Both videos are an endeavor by talented musicians to demonstrate their personality through a visual aid. Be your own judge and view below.
