Everyone Loves Syd

Two years ago the legendary Syd Barrett died. He was, of course, once the primary songwriter for Pink Floyd in it's original incarnation, a man who had retreated to the life of a country hermit by the time Pink Floyd were in their commercial hey day.

He's a cult figure, but more than that one of the primary catalyst for British psychedelic rock

Today, September 23rd, Dwell Records released "Like Black Holes In The Sky: The Tribute To SYD BARRETT." Incredible bands ranging from Dredg to Intronaut have submitted their versions of Syd's solo material as well as "Piper" era Pink Floyd. I bought this album last night from iTunes, and it is better than I hoped for. While many of these bands are heavier than my usual tastes, they do a great job of showing just how Barrett was able to influence their music. You can hear the entire album, HERE!
